Air Propellers

Our production is designed for installation on amphibious vehicles equipped with driving gear with air propeller. Air propeller may be installed as cruising, on air-cushion vessels, air-vessels, airboats and other off-road vehicles.

Air propeller is designed for installation on power equipment containing reduction gearbox.

Construction description

Air propellers VTM 02 / VTM 03 are the propellers with adjustable step, that is, the pitch of the screw can be changed.


Blades and air propeller hub are made of high-strength heat-treated aluminum alloy by way of mechanical processing by means of the close control equipment. This provides for the following high-rated operational characteristics: high thrust and operational life, excellent protection from mechanical damage, weak abrasive wear, high maintainability.

Propeller hub consists of two parts. Blades are fixed between these parts. Thrust collars are made at the outer surface of the blade butts and at the inner surface of the propeller hub.

Fixing and mounting holes are made in the hub. Halves of hubs are centered together by tacks. Graduation lines are marked on the front of the hub body and on the propeller blades to make blade pitch setting possible without using special straight-edge. Propeller is supplied assembled with preliminary settled pitch.

Material for blades and propeller hubs is a high-strength heat-treated aluminum alloy Д16Т (foreign analogue of 2024Т3)


Advantages of propellers of our own make
over propellers made of fiber-glass plastic:
  • High-rated strength characteristics of the material for propellers provide for feasibility of operation with high angular speed - up to 270 m/s. This provides for augmentation of propeller thrust without change of engine capacity.
  • Increased propeller thrust is also provided by optimal sections and high-grade finish of blade faces.
  • Availability of propellers with diameter of 2,500 mm in a model line-up allows to implement a thrust 30% more in comparison with propellers with diameter of 2,000 - 2,100 mm upon unchanged engine capacity. Simple propeller diameter increase allows to avoid complicated and sometimes heavy and cumbrous constructive solutions applicable usually for thrust increase: usage of ring fillings, coaxial reduction gears together with easily vulnerable multi-blade propellers reducing mass and increasing overall reliability of power equipment installed on amphibious vehicles.
  • High abradant resistance. Full absence of abrasive wear in the course of operation in conditions of rain and snow.
  • High strength and tenacity in case of foreign objects intrusion into propeller.
  • Despite of higher cost in comparison with propellers made of fiber-glass plastic (2 times approximately), operational life is 48 times longer in comparison with them. This makes them more economically efficient particularly in the course of intensive use.
  • More effective thrust characteristics provide for fuel efficiency improvement of a vehicle.
  • High maintainability. Possibility of full recovery of initial state after long-term usage.
  • Simple balancing. It is carried out by way of grinding of rougher blade.
  • Blades do not decompose; ironing of propeller blade does not fall compared to propellers made of fiber-glass plastic.
  • Possibility of more qualitative propeller quality control in its manufacturing by way of ultrasonic control and simple measuring of geometric parameters. Stability of characteristics and simple incoming quality control of a material used.
  • Manufacturing of propellers almost of aircraft materials and under aircraft technologies provides for its high-rated thrust and operational characteristics.

Currently, 2 series of air propellers are produced, differing with each other by the geometrical shape of the blade.

VTM 02 Series:

2, 3, 4-blade propellers with a diameter of 1800 - 2550 mm.

Designed to work with engines from 120 to 380 hp.

VTM 04 Series:

2, 3-blade propellers with a diameter of 1800 - 2550 mm.

Designed to work with engines from 250 to 700 hp.

We produce gearboxes for automobile engines for functioning with air propeller.

  • Gear Reducers. Center-to-center distances of 100 and 120 mm, depending on the model of the reducer.
  • Parts of reduction gears are produced at our enterprise. Close control equipment with programmed numerical control and qualitative materials serving their purpose are used in the course of production.
  • Designing and manufacturing preparation is implemented by experienced experts with application of advanced designing methods.
  • Gear cases are produced from high-strength aluminum alloys by method of milling.
  • Gear wheels are helical and undergo thermochemical treatment and rolling, have high-wearing feature and strength.
  • All parts have higher safety factor providing high reliability and life cycle of reduction gears in whole.
  • The engine flywheel, with the starter crown, is included in the gearbox. You just need to screw it all in place.
  • Warranty period for all products is 12 months without restriction of service hours.

  • Reduction gears (gearboxes) have gearing construction with helical type of gearing.
  • Spacing on centers is 100 mm, 3UR – 120 mm.
  • Cooling of reduction gears is aerial. Full finning of the case provides for sufficient surface for reduction gear cooling.
  • Reduction gears (gearboxes) are installed on engine flange using screw bolts. Supplied flywheel or half-coupling (3UR) is installed instead standard flywheel of the engine.
  • Torque transfer from engine to reduction gear is implemented through flexible coupling the part of which is manufactured as part of flywheel of the engine.
  • Reduction gears constitute exacting products manufactured using advanced technologies of machine and thermal processing.
  • Gear cases are manufactured from high-strength heat-treated aluminum plates by method of milling. Works are executed using close control equipment. This provides for guaranteed accuracy in sizes, high strength and well surface condition.

  • We also perform a full conversion of Subaru, Honda and Toyota car engines.
  • Gears are made of alloy steel designed for their production. Machine processing is performed using close control equipment with programmed numerical control. Processing of teeth is implemented using precision gear machine. Thermochemical treatment is executed for receiving necessary strength and wear resistant characteristics.
  • Final filing and rolling of gears provide for high fineness of work surface of teeth and quite work of reduction gear.
  • Flange of air propeller has a hack providing secure mounting of air propeller.
  • Qualitative and long-life bearings SKF, NTN are installed in reduction gears.
  • Mineral or part synthetic automobile transmission oil as good as GL4, GL5 is used in reduction gears. Oil viscosity is chosen depending on season. Amount of filling oil is 1.5 – 2 l depending on reduction gear model. Significant quantity of filling oil provides for well oiling greasing and reduction gear cooling.
  • In order to control oil level, transparent oil-measuring tube is mounted on reduction gears.
  • The flywheel with the starter crown is part of the gearbox.

Products of the enterprise are supplied throughout Russia, and also had been exported to Kazakhstan, Moldova, Mongolia, China, Laos and Sudan.

More than 1,500 reduction gears, more than 600 units of power equipment, more than 250 various versions of airboats “Typhoon” and more than 30 small size vessels for various purposes were produced to date.

Among the customers there are individuals, business companies and public sector customers. Airboats are used for guarding of reserve areas, and used by border guard services and rescue services throughout Russia.
Fishery schooners manufactured by the enterprise are frequently used for coastal fishing by fishermen of Sakhalin and Kamchatka.

Power equipment and gearboxes are installed serially on amphibious vehicles of several manufacturers of air-cushion vessels, airboats and air-vessels in Russia: Torex (Saratov - amphibians “Patrul”), Amfibiynaya tekhnika (Nizhny Novgorod - ACV (air-cushion vessel) “Slavir”), Rechnoy Vnedorozhnik (Irkutsk - air-vessels “Piraniya”), Dialan (Arkhangelsk - airboats “Dvina”), Sirius Christy Hovercraft (Saint-Petersburg - ACV), Kurs-Aero (Irkutsk - air-vessels “Kasatka”) and others.
